How to increase water pressure from a shallow well. First, turn off the circuit that is connected to your well pump. It's an addition that can be installed on the water line as the water enters your home, usually in the basement.

Test the air fill valve with an air pressure gauge and see where your pressure lies. This will allow the water in your tank to empty out through the hose. To increase the pressure on a water pump, you need to adjust the pressure switch.

The rate of increase is 2 1/2 psi for every complete turn of the nut. Unplug power cord to pump or locate breaker and turn off (likely a double pole 20 or 30 amp) remove cover to pressure switch. If you are using an above ground shallow well jet pump like the one shown here you may be able to increase water pressure into home by following these steps:

Turn the nut three times, and then test the water pressure. Next, test the air fill valve with a gauge. If the well water still isn't at the pressure you'd like, try three more, and so on.

Normal well water pressure should fall between 40 and 60 psi, so if your pressure is outside the normal range, adjust the pressure switch. Turn off the circuit breaker that supplies power. Install elevated platform for water tank.

Whether it’s a booster pump, a shallow well pump, or jet pump, most of these units work with a pressure switch. A constant pressure system works to maintain a steady level of water pressure, even when the water draw is increased.
